I love this post by PixelRN, and this thought from it in particular:
It's like the childish "me" has always wanted to do something creative but then my childish side kind of ran out of time. So I grew up and found a profession.
It hit me yesterday that I always believed the same thing -- that our lives are divided into childhood and adulthood. Once you cross over into adulthood, whatever you're doing is pretty much what you'll ... Keep reading »
I love Seth Godin. Fantastic stuff. However, his recommendation today that "[i]f you like what you're reading, click an ad to say thanks" -- while good-hearted -- is terribly misguided.
If every time you read a blog post or bit of online content you enjoyed you clicked on an ad to say thanks, the economics of the web would change immediately. You don't have to buy anything (though it's fine if you do). You just have to ... Keep reading »
Got this email this morning:
Dye Management Group, Inc. Domain name & Internet keyword
Dear Sir/Madam,
We are Beijing Erimart Network Service Co., Ltd which is the domain name register center in China. We received a formal application from a company who is applying to register “[my domain name]” as their domain name and Internet keyword on JULY 09, 2008. Because this involves your company name or trade mark so we inform you in no time. If you consider these domain names and ... Keep reading »
So I was accepted into the ScribeFire QuickAds beta program on Monday and finally got around to getting everything set up yesterday. I'm really impressed with the interface. Very clean, very easy to use. There are still a few rough edges (like the color blocks in the ad editor not updating when you enter a valid color), but far fewer than I expected to find. Definitely doesn't look like beta ... Keep reading »
I'm seeing reports around the web now that YouTube is completely down for everyone, but I haven't seen any word as to what's up. Very strange for a major site to just go completely offline like that.
Update: Do these strange server names have anything to do with it, or is it just that no one has ever noticed them before?
This is the best thread I've found ... Keep reading »
Wanted to give a huge thanks to Deepak. After updating to WordPress 2.5 several days ago, I only today tried to upload an image for the first time. Well, the only result I could ever get was a box labeled "Crunching..." and then a less-then-helpful error message that read only: An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later.
After a little searching, though, I came across Deepak's post that had exactly what I needed.
Thanks, ... Keep reading »
Great post today by the new owner of Blogging Experiment on "What I Look For When Buying A Website." It's an outstanding look at all the elements of value in a site -- many of which most people never think about.
If you know what's valuable, you can focus on those things and make your exit as lucrative as possible.
That's the title of one of the best articles I've ever read and you can find it over at Meta Best Blog Win. Great advice in a great format.
A big thanks to Free Lancer for pointing it out.
I love this quote that Shai posted today:
The greatest reward in becoming a millionaire is not the amount of money that you earn. It is the kind of person that you have to become to become a millionaire in the first place.
- Jim Rohn
It reminded me so much of what people say all the time about Frank.
At least on Digg, apparently. Ben and Tamar are reporting this morning on the lack of privacy with Digg's "shout" function.
Definitely worth a read.
